Er umreißt die Aufgaben der Religionswissenschaft zum Themenbereich des Sonischen, präsentiert Definitionen und zeichnet Grundlinien einer sonischen Religionsphänomenologie auf. Am Beispiel von Rudolf Ottos Heiligkeitserlebnis in Marokko 1911 wird die auditive Wahrnehmung von Räumen, akustischen Erinnerungsorten und der spezifischen Variante des vertikalen Hörens dargestellt. Mit den Konzeptionen von Aura, Atmosphäre und Stimmungsraum soll versucht werden, Ottos auditives Heiligkeitserlebnis zu verstehen.

The article summarizes and continues the author’s previous contributions in the context of the „auditive turn“. It outlines the tasks of religious studies in the field of the sonic, presents definitions and draws the basic lines of a sonic phenomenology of religion. Using the example of Rudolf Otto’s experience of holiness in Morocco in 1911, the auditory perception of spaces, acoustic places of memory and the specific variant of vertical hearing is presented. With the concepts of aura, atmosphere and atmospheric space, an attempt is made to understand Otto’s auditory experience of holiness.
