Zusammenfassung
Der Artikel gibt einen Überblick über den Buddhismus in Österreich. Neben der Darstellung der Situation zu Ende des ersten Jahrzehnts des 21. Jahrhunderts bietet die Darstellung einen historischen Abriss über die frühen Jahre bis zur staatlichen Anerkennung, sowie die weiteren Entwicklungen bis heute. Theravada (3.1), Mahayana (3.2) und Vajrayana-Traditionen (3.3) werden vorgestellt, ebenso übertraditionelle Gruppen (3.4) sowie soziokulturell asiatisch dominierte (3.5). Die Länderdarstellung schließt mit einem Überblick über nationale Organisationsformen (3.6) und nationales Besonderheiten (3.7) ab.

Summary
This article gives an overview of the status of Buddhism in Austria. In addition to the presentation of the situation at the end of the first decade of the 21st century, the presentation offers a historical outline over the early years up to the state recognition in 1983, as well as the further developments up to today. The description follows the traditional categorizations of Buddhist organizations: Theravada (3.1), Mahayana (3.2) und Vajrayana traditions (3.3), followed by an introduction of non-traditional and trans-traditional groups (3.4), as well as groups whose membership is predominantly of Asian heritage (3.5). The country presentation concludes with an overview of national organizational forms (3.6) and national peculiarities (3.7).
